高原と踊り場の共通点

 
英語の表現に"plateaued out"というのがある。
 
 
"plateau"(プラトー)とは聞きなれない単語だけれど、高原とか台地がもともとの意味。そこから転じて「進歩が止まる」「水平状態になる」というように使われる。

ある程度の進捗や上達があった後、なかなか伸びない時期に入ること。

 

頭打ち、横ばい、停滞状態・・・

 

上昇も低下もしない比較的変動の少ない時期。

 

それはギターやピアノのような楽器練習において起こり易く、他にもお茶やお花のような習い事、スポーツや学業、仕事上でも往々にして起こり得る。

 

改めて考えると人間関係も同じだし、人生自体に言えること。

  

上達している時、伸びている時、調子のいい時は楽しい。


その反面、ある程度の伸びがあると必然的に伸び悩みの時期もある。

 

人はそれをスランプと言ったり、我慢の時と言ったり、踊り場に入ったと表現したりする。

 

大事なことは続けること。


諦めずに、

 

また上昇できる時が来ると信じて、

 

やめずに続けること。

 

ひたすら続けること。


そこで差がつくのだから。
